Trabzonspor’s forward, Paul Onuachu, is set to replace Umar Sadiq in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after Sadiq sustained a knee injury in a recent friendly.
Onuachu was initially part of Nigeria’s preliminary squad for the AFCON but didn’t make the final selection.
The Nigeria Football Federation will need approval from Onuachu’s club, Trabzonspor, before submitting his name to the Confederation of African Football.
Onuachu, who missed the AFCON 2021 due to injury, was part of the Super Eagles team that finished third in the 2019 AFCON hosted by Egypt.
