The Democratic Republic of Congo missed several opportunities in a 1-1 draw with Zambia during their Africa Cup of Nations Group F match. Zambia’s Kings Kangwa scored in the 23rd minute with an innovative goal, but Congo quickly equalized through Yoane Wissa. Both teams made their tournament debut after Morocco defeated Tanzania 3-0 in the opening game at the same stadium.
Zambia’s goal, scored by Kangwa, surprised Congo as their goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi rushed off his line but failed to intercept Patson Daka. In response, Congo executed a well-constructed play: midfielder Gael Kakuta delivered a perfect pass to Cedric Bakambu, who then set up Wissa to score.
Congo almost took the lead soon after, but Zambia’s veteran defender Stoppila Sunzu cleared the ball off the line. Congo was awarded a penalty, but after a lengthy VAR check, it was determined that the ball had not touched Zambia’s player’s hand. The match ended 1-1, with both teams missing opportunities in the final minutes.
The Democratic Republic of Congo will play Morocco next, while Zambia will face Tanzania.
