Real Madrid boss Ancelotti defends Vinicius Jr., calling him a target for opponents and fans.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out in defense of winger Vinicius Jr., claiming he’s subjected to more on-field abuse than any other player he’s coached.
This comes after Vinicius scored the only goal in a 1-1 Champions League draw against RB Leipzig, despite receiving a yellow card for an altercation.
He also faced jeers and racial abuse from a section of Valencia fans last weekend.
Ancelotti, speaking ahead of their La Liga match against Celta Vigo, emphasized the repeated targeting Vinicius experiences:
“Looking back at history and statistics, I’ve never seen a player treated as poorly as Vinicius. He’s constantly kicked, whistled at, and insulted.”
The manager praised Vinicius’ response, highlighting his goals and assists. He believes the focus should shift:
“He doesn’t react poorly, he just keeps performing. It’s everyone else who needs to change their attitude towards him.”
