In a recent interview, Alex Iwobi, the midfielder playing for both Fulham and the Nigerian national team (the Super Eagles!), was chatting about what makes him proud to be Nigerian.
First off, he cracked a joke saying you can practically smell a Nigerian’s confidence a mile away (all in good fun, of course!). But beyond that, he talked about how Nigerians have these unique ways of acting that set them apart. He even playfully poked fun at the Yorubas for being a bit on the loud side!
More seriously though, Iwobi really loves the strong sense of community in Nigeria. Everyone seems super welcoming, and those who are successful often give back to their hometown. He even mentioned how all the footballers he knows try to support their communities back home – that’s pretty cool, right?
And guess what Iwobi always craves when he lands back in Nigeria? Pounded yam and egusi! Now that sounds delicious.
