Neville Backs Kane to Start, Calls Him England Great
Ahead of England’s historic Euro 2024 final against Spain, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has weighed in on
Harry Kane’s starting position and legacy. While concerns linger about Kane’s fitness due to recent strong performances from teammates Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney, Neville believes Kane should lead the line.
Neville, speaking on Sky Sports, also highlighted Kane’s achievements. “I spoke to Wayne Rooney before the tournament,” Neville said, “and he called Kane England’s greatest-ever player.
That’s high praise considering Rooney’s own England career.” Neville himself concurred, praising Kane’s consistency and impact: “He’s been sensational. You know he’ll deliver – a solid character.”
This endorsement comes as Kane sits atop the Euro 2024 scorers’ list with three goals and holds the record for most international knockout stage goals by a European player (nine).
