Gyokeres Reveals Why He Chose Sporting Over Arsenal
Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish striker for Sporting Lisbon, has explained why he rejected a potential move to Arsenal this summer.
Arsenal was interested in signing Gyokeres but ultimately decided to bring in Alexander Isak on loan from Chelsea. Gyokeres revealed that Sporting Lisbon’s high asking price was a factor in Arsenal’s decision.
Despite the interest from Arsenal, Gyokeres expressed satisfaction with his decision to remain at Sporting Lisbon. He praised the club and indicated that he is open to a potential move in the future.
“They [Sporting Lisbon] wanted most of the starting players to stay and held us tight. That’s how it turned out, but I enjoy Sporting very well, so for me it was no problem to stay,” Gyokeres told Aftonbladet.
“It was probably a bit too much because nothing came of it. Of course it’s a lot of money. But we will see what happens next window.”
