Chelsea’s Internal Power Struggle Leads to Pochettino’s Departure
Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly reportedly favored retaining Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s manager, but was ultimately outvoted by co-owner Behdad Eghbali.
Despite a strong finish to the previous season, including a five-game winning streak, Pochettino was dismissed from his role at Chelsea. His successor, Enzo Maresca, was appointed shortly after his departure.
Pochettino is now linked with the USMNT job following his exit from Chelsea. While he was initially considered for the Manchester United position, Eghbali’s influence was instrumental in his departure from Chelsea.
Eghbali, who holds a majority stake in Chelsea, played a key role in the decision to part ways with Pochettino. His preference for a different managerial approach led to Pochettino’s dismissal.
Pochettino’s time at Chelsea was marked by mixed results. He faced criticism for the club’s early-season struggles but managed to turn things around towards the end of the season. Despite his efforts, Eghbali ultimately decided to make a change.
Maresca, who had a successful season with Leicester City, has taken over as Chelsea’s manager. Under his leadership, the club has secured four points from their first three league matches.
