The Turin Anti-Doping Tribunal (TAS) has announced a significant reduction in Paul Pogba’s drug ban.
The former Manchester United midfielder, who currently plays for Juventus, will now serve a 18-month suspension instead of the initial 4-year ban imposed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
Pogba was provisionally suspended in September 2023 after testing positive for a banned substance.
While the specific substance involved has not been publicly disclosed, the initial ban of four years had raised concerns about Pogba’s future in football.
The TAS ruling represents a major victory for Pogba, who will now be eligible to return to training in January 2025. He could potentially resume playing official matches in March of that year.
Juventus and Pogba are expected to open talks regarding the termination of his contract. With the reduced ban, Pogba may have the opportunity to sign with a new club as a free agent.
