Souness Slams Chelsea’s Record Signing
Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness has criticized Chelsea’s decision to sign Enzo Fernandez for a club-record fee. The Argentine midfielder has struggled to live up to expectations since his January 2023 transfer from Benfica.
Souness believes that Fernandez is one of several Chelsea players who have not justified their high price tags. He questioned the club’s spending spree under Todd Boehly’s ownership, suggesting that many of the signings have not delivered on their potential.
“I think there is been enormous wastage in the current group of players,” Souness said. “I think a lot of them will never come up to the levels they think they will come up to. The most obvious one at this moment in time who is not in the team is Enzo Fernandez.”
