Arteta Reflects on Five Years at Arsenal, Highlights Future Ambitions

Five years ago today, Mikel Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager, taking over a club that was drifting away from the Premier League’s elite. The Spaniard, a former club captain, has since overseen a remarkable transformation, guiding the Gunners back to the Champions League and establishing them as serious title contenders.

Reflecting on his five-year tenure, Arteta stated, “What we want is the big trophies, without losing the rest of the things we have built. That’s very important. The unity and the connections and the fact that we are competing on big fronts right now. We haven’t managed to do that in the past years. That’s positive, but there’s still a lot to do.”

Arteta acknowledged the challenges faced and the significant progress made, including the club’s return to the Champions League and their recent title challenges.

He emphasized his commitment to building on this success and achieving further glory, stating, “What we want is the big trophies, without losing the rest of the things we have built. That’s very important. The unity and the connections and the fact that we are competing on big fronts right now. We haven’t managed to do that in the past years. That’s positive, but there’s still a lot to do.” Arteta expressed his passion for the club and his determination to continuously improve as a manager, striving to become the best possible leader for Arsenal.

He believes the best is yet to come for the club, and he is determined to lead them to continued success in the years to come. Arsenal currently sit third in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Liverpool. They face Crystal Palace away on Saturday, looking to build on their recent form and maintain their challenge for the title.
