Former Chelsea striker, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has attributed their 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg to midfielder Caicedo’s actions.
Hasselbaink emphasized Caicedo’s unexpected choice to cease tracking Hayden Hackney’s run, ultimately leading to Hackney scoring the only goal of the match from Isaiah Jones’ cross.
Hasselbaink told Sky Sports, “The goalkeeper had no chance, but we cannot overlook Caicedo. It turned into a one-on-one situation, and with determination, you don’t lose a one-on-one. You should continue chasing your opponent and ensure you stick with them. At the last moment, you give them a little nudge so they cannot put the ball in, but he stopped.”
