Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that England defender Eric Dier will soon be joining the team from Tottenham.
Tuchel expressed the team’s efforts to finalize the deal to add another option to their squad.
Dier, whose contract with Tottenham was ending, arrived in Munich for a medical check and expressed his positive views about joining Bayern.
The reported fee for Dier’s transfer is four million euros. The versatile Dier can play as a center-back, defensive midfielder, or right-back and will reunite with his former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane at Bayern.
Tuchel sees Dier as a specialist central defender, which will allow Leon Goretzka to play in midfield.
With Kim Min-Jae set to miss games due to representing South Korea at the Asian Cup, Tuchel has been seeking additional support in defense.
Dier was born in England, raised in Portugal, and moved to Tottenham in 2014. He has 49 appearances for England, scoring three times and has played four times for Tottenham this season.
Bayern Munich is currently second in the Bundesliga, four points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with a game in hand. Their next match after the winter break will be at home against Hoffenheim.
