Cape Verde secured a victory over Ghana with a late goal from Garry Rodrigues in their Africa Cup of Nations opener.
The match followed earlier games in Group A and Group B, including Nigeria’s draw with Equatorial Guinea and Egypt’s last-minute penalty to draw with Mozambique.
Rodrigues initially set up the lead for Cape Verde before Ghana’s apparent equalizer was disallowed due to offside interference.
Ghana eventually managed to draw level in the second half, but Cape Verde continued to create scoring opportunities. The breakthrough came in stoppage time, with Rodrigues converting a chance to secure the win for Cape Verde.
The match also saw the introduction of Ghana veteran Dede Ayew, marking his eighth Cup of Nations tournament appearance. Ghana will face Egypt next, while Cape Verde will take on Mozambique in their upcoming fixtures.
