Cape Verde made history by being the first team to progress to the round of 16 at AFCON 2023 in Cote D’Ivoire.
They achieved this through a resounding 3-0 victory over Mozambique in group B. Tiago Manuel Dias Correia (Bebe), Ryan Isaac Mendes da Graca, and Kevin Lenini Goncalves Pereira de Pina scored the goals.
Tiago’s impressive free kick put Cape Verde in the lead at halftime. Mendes and Pina added to the scoreline in the second half.
With this win and a previous victory over Ghana, Cape Verde has earned six points from two games.
Egypt has two points, while Ghana and Mozambique have one each. Despite Cape Verde’s qualification, the group remains open as the remaining three teams, Egypt, Ghana, and Mozambique, vie for progression in the tournament.
