Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of the next two Africa Cup of Nations games due to a hamstring injury, as confirmed by the Egyptian Football Association.
The 31-year-old sustained the injury during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana and will miss the upcoming matches against Cape Verde and a potential last-16 tie.
Egypt must secure a victory against Cape Verde to ensure progression to the next stage and, if successful, Salah would only feature again if Egypt reaches the quarter-final on February 2 or 3.
Egypt, who have drawn their first two tournament games, are aiming to secure their eighth African title, with Salah’s potential return hinging on the team’s performance in the competition.
