Angola secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mauritania in the Africa Cup of Nations, with Gelson Dala scoring twice to edge his team closer to a place in the last 16.
Dala opened the scoring with a scrappy acrobatic effort before Mauritania’s Sidi Bouna Amar equalized with a skillful finish.
Dala then regained the lead with another impressive goal, followed by Gilberto’s deflected shot extending Angola’s lead. Despite a late goal from Aboubakary Koita, Angola held on for the win.
This victory put Angola at the top of Group D, ahead of Burkina Faso on goal difference. A draw in their final group match would secure their spot in the knockout rounds.
Algeria, the defending champions, are currently on two points after consecutive draws, while Mauritania is seeking their first win in the tournament. Mauritania must defeat Algeria to have a chance of advancing as one of the four best third-placed teams.
