Neil Maupay sealed the victory for Brentford with a superb touch and volley 22 minutes from time, lifting the team above Forest into 14th place, six points clear of the relegation zone.
Forest, who are in a difficult position after admitting breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, now sit just four points above the relegation zone and could face a points deduction. Missing key players due to the Africa Cup of Nations and injuries, they had a promising start with Danilo’s early goal, but ultimately couldn’t secure the win.
Toney’s absence and the absence of other key players have been keenly felt by Brentford. Their struggles were evident as Keane Lewis-Potter missed several chances, but they ultimately secured the win through Ben Mee’s header and Maupay’s brilliant finish.
