Japan’s football association has strongly condemned the disgraceful actions of fans who directed racial abuse at goalkeeper Zion Suzuki following Japan’s defeat in the Asian Cup.
The 21-year-old, with a mixed heritage, became the target of racial abuse on social media after his performance in the match.
The president of the Japanese Football Association, Kozo Tashima, expressed a zero-tolerance approach to such behavior, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to eradicating racism from the sport.
Tashima underscored the contradictory nature of this abusive behavior with the values of a society that respects diversity, labeling it as an invasion of human rights and privacy, reflecting shameful conduct.
