Group F final standings: DR Congo qualifies to AFCON last-16 without winning a single match

The dust has settled on Group F of the AFCON tournament, and what a wild ride it was!

While Morocco emerged as the undisputed kings with a dominant performance, the most intriguing story belongs to DR Congo, who defied the odds and qualified for the last 16 without a single victory.

Morocco Soars with Seven Points:

The Atlas Lions lived up to their billing as tournament favorites, racking up an impressive seven points from three games.

They showcased their attacking prowess with a 3-0 demolition of Tanzania and a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Zambia. Hakim Ziyech was the undisputed star, weaving his magic in midfield and scoring the decisive goal against Zambia.

DR Congo’s Houdini Act:

While Morocco dazzled, DR Congo’s tale is one of resilience and defensive grit.

They played to three consecutive draws, holding both Morocco and Zambia to scoreless stalemates.

Despite lacking attacking spark, their resolute defense and strategic approach proved enough to secure a third-place finish and a last-minute ticket to the knockout stage.

Zambia, despite their close defeat to Morocco, finished second with four points thanks to a 1-1 draw against Tanzania.

The Taifa Stars, however, bowed out of the tournament with just one point, their attacking woes proving their undoing.

Morocco, having topped the group, faces a potentially easier opponent in the next round.

DR Congo, however, will have their work cut out for them against a tougher adversary.

One thing’s for sure, Group F’s dramatic conclusion has set the stage for an even more thrilling knockout stage!
