A high-profile match in Belgium involving Anderlecht and Genk will undergo a full replay due to a VAR error and an incorrect application of the rules.
The incident occurred in the 23rd minute when Genk’s Yira Sor scored from a rebound after a penalty miss by Bryan Heynan. Replays revealed that Sor was inside the area when the penalty was taken, prompting VAR to advise the referee to disallow the goal.
However, it was also observed that two Anderlecht players had encroached into the penalty area, which should have led to a retaken penalty for Genk according to the laws of the game.
Despite this, Anderlecht ultimately won the match 2-1 with a 91st-minute goal from Anders Dreyer on December 23, 2023.
