Thai police warn Liverpool fans not to become victims of Alonso’s impersonation

Thai authorities have cautioned Liverpool fans to be wary of fraudulent online activity involving an impersonation of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso.

A viral message, purportedly from Alonso’s Instagram account, is requesting donations of 300 baht to aid in covering his airfare to Liverpool, where he claims to be taking charge next season.

Despite the report, it’s important for fans to know that Xabi Alonso has not yet been confirmed as the manager, and there are already instances of scams involving his name.

The police have identified the message as a manipulated representation of Alonso’s official Instagram account created by a scammer.

This fraudulent activity has prompted authorities to issue a warning to Liverpool supporters.

Thailand has a significant Premier League following, and Liverpool is particularly well-supported, with their presence widely visible in various aspects of Thai life such as clothing, taxis, and local businesses.
