Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui, is reportedly holding crucial talks with Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz in the coming days.
This follows three previous discussions since 2023, highlighting Morocco’s efforts to secure his commitment despite Spanish media pressure for him to represent Spain.
While Regragui previously passed on Diaz for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to facilitate his World Cup qualifier eligibility, reports now suggest Diaz could be nearing a call-up for Spain’s friendlies in March.
Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente reportedly admires Diaz’s performances and aims to solidify his allegiance before the Euro 2024.
Diaz’s final decision will determine if Morocco initiates the process of changing his sports nationality, allowing him to play in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Additionally, Regragui is prepared for a potential rejection and plans to continue persuading other Europe-based players of Moroccan descent to join the national team.
