My father etched his name in history by winning the Treble with Manchester United. Now, I’m carving my path in the beautiful game, inspired by his legacy.

Ennio van der Gouw, 23, isn’t just carrying on his father’s football legacy as a goalkeeper, he’s also carving his path.

While Raimond van der Gouw spent most of his Manchester United career as a backup to legends like Schmeichel and Barthez, Ennio is already making his mark at Belgian side Zulte Waregem.

Raimond, now 60, spent six seasons at United, mostly warming the bench.

But he gained invaluable experience, later becoming a respected goalkeeping coach under Roy Keane and currently working at Shakhtar Donetsk.

No doubt, that wisdom is being passed down to his son.

But football isn’t Ennio’s only passion. The 6ft 5in youngster is also a talented pianist, using music to unwind from the pressure of the pitch.

Born in Stockport during his father’s United stint, Ennio started as an outfield player before embracing the gloves like his dad.

After coming through Twente’s youth ranks without a first-team appearance, Ennio joined VVV-Venlo in 2022.

He impressed with 35 appearances and a dramatic assist in his debut, setting up a 96th-minute winner with a miskicked corner.

His talent landed him a four-year contract with Zulte Waregem in July 2023.

So, Ennio van der Gouw is not just following in his father’s footsteps, he’s sprinting ahead with his unique blend of athleticism and musicality.

Keep an eye on this rising star who’s proving that success can come in many forms, both on and off the pitch.
