AFCON: CAF Sanctions Hit Ivory Coast, Mali, and Senegal, Nigeria Cleared

Good News for Nigeria! The Confederation of African Football (CAF) cleared the Super Eagles and their players of any wrongdoing during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Despite reaching the final and falling just short to Ivory Coast, no infractions were found against Nigeria.

However, the tournament wasn’t free of disciplinary action. CAF took measures against AFCON winners Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Mali:

Ivory Coast and Mali: Both teams were sanctioned for their knockout clash on February 3rd.

Mali faced charges of unsporting behavior by their players towards officials, particularly Hamari Traore.

He received a four-match suspension (two suspended for a year) and Mali was fined $10,000 USD.

Senegal: Their player Krepin Diatta was found guilty of disrespecting CAF with comments after the match against Ivory Coast on January 29th.

Diatta earned a four-match suspension (two suspended for a year) and a $10,000 USD fine. Additionally, Senegal received a $5,000 USD fine for team misconduct.

This information comes from a recent post on CAF’s official website.
