Following a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Plateau United on Wednesday, Heartland has implemented a temporary 50% salary reduction for their players until their performance improves.
The former NPFL champions currently sit at the bottom of the league table, facing a challenging battle to avoid relegation.
General Manager, Promise Nwachukwu, emphasized the severity of the situation, highlighting the players’ lack of commitment and suggesting potential further sanctions if their performance doesn’t improve.
“The management has made the difficult decision to reduce player salaries until the team shows significant improvement,” Nwachukwu stated.
“The performance against Plateau United was unacceptable, and the players need to understand the gravity of the situation.”
Heartland seeks redemption as they prepare to host Sunshine Stars in their next league match on Sunday.
