Legendary Italian coach Arrigo Sacchi dissected Napoli’s Champions League exit, highlighting Victor Osimhen’s performance as a missed opportunity.
Following a 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night, Napoli bowed out of the competition with a 4-2 aggregate loss.
Despite scoring Napoli’s only goal in the first leg, Osimhen struggled to make an impact in the return fixture.
In his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi focused on the lack of attacking threat from key players:
“What surprised me most was the minimal involvement of Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen, the two players Napoli depended on most.”
Sacchi suggests that while service to the attackers may have been lacking, their own movement and positioning also contributed to their ineffectiveness.
“It’s true they didn’t get much service,” he wrote, “but at the same time, they didn’t move much and they did it in the wrong way, making it easy for opponents to stop them.”
By analyzing these shortcomings, Sacchi offers a critical perspective on what went wrong for Napoli.
