Klopp Shoulders Blame After Liverpool’s Shocking Europa League Defeat
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shouldered the blame for his team’s dismal performance against Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday.
The Reds were stunned 3-0 at Anfield by the Italian side, with former West Ham striker Gianluca Scammaca bagging a brace.
Speaking after the match, Klopp offered a frank assessment, acknowledging a complete lack of positives for Liverpool.
“Unfortunately, there’s nothing good to say about the game,” he admitted to TNT Sports. “We started well, Darwin Nunez had a chance, but then it fell apart completely.”
Klopp pinpointed specific areas of concern, particularly their tactical positioning in possession. “We gave them opportunities with sloppy passing, leading to us chasing shadows,” he explained.
While he acknowledged a disallowed goal for his side, the overall performance left him with no excuses. “It was a bad game from us,” he conceded. “Atalanta played well, deserved the win, and scored three good goals.”
