“According to The Sun, two footballers from the same team were taken into custody over the previous weekend.
A 19-year-old player was reportedly interviewed by the authorities regarding allegations of assault and complicity in a sexual assault.
The report by The Sun further mentions that after a preliminary interview, the player was permitted to exit the team’s stadium prior to an official arrest.
Subsequently, he spent the ensuing night in a detention cell, where detectives conducted an interrogation under caution.
The following day, a teammate of the player, also 19, was apprehended and interrogated on allegations of sexual assault.
On Monday evening, the police verified that both individuals have been conditionally released while investigations continue.
It is claimed that the sexual assault took place on Friday night, and the purported victim approached the authorities a few hours later to lodge an official complaint.
“Two individuals have been detained in connection with a sexual assault report,” stated a police representative to The Sun.
“A 19-year-old man was detained on suspicions of assault and facilitating a sexual assault.
Another 19-year-old man was detained on suspicions of sexual assault. Both have been subsequently released on police bail.”
Additionally, a representative for the club stated: “Given that the issue is presently being handled by the police, the football club will refrain from commenting further at this juncture.”
It remains uncertain whether the two footballers have been suspended while the investigation is ongoing.”
