Transfer guru Ben Jacobs discusses the uncertain futures of Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
While Liverpool wants to retain them beyond the summer, all three player contracts end in 2025, and contract extensions are on hold until a new manager is appointed.
Arne Slot, the reported successor to Klopp, is said to be keen on keeping the trio. However, Jacobs suggests a potential transfer for Salah to a Saudi Pro League club could provide funds for a squad rebuild.
“For Slot, the question is how he’ll utilize Trent Alexander-Arnold,” Jacobs said. “Liverpool naturally wants him to extend. Additionally, van Dijk and Salah – will they stay or go with Klopp?”
He highlights the financial incentive of a Salah sale: “Selling Salah to Saudi Arabia could generate enough money for Liverpool to be very active in the transfer market this summer. However, Slot and Liverpool’s hierarchy would undoubtedly prefer to keep Salah.”
