More Trouble for Man City? Owners Face Relegation Threat

La Liga surprise package Girona, owned by Manchester City’s parent company City Football Group (CFG), faces a potential UEFA investigation over their record signing of striker Artem Dovbyk last summer.

Dovbyk, who has been on fire this season with 19 goals, arrived from Dnipro for a club-record €8 million.

However, a Ukrainian lawyer, Evgeniy Kuzmin, alleges irregularities in the transfer, claiming a company registered in Estonia aimed to avoid paying taxes in Ukraine. Kuzmin filed a complaint with UEFA, urging them to investigate the deal.

The potential consequences for Girona are severe, ranging from a hefty fine to expulsion from European and even domestic competitions.

This news adds pressure to CFG, who are already under scrutiny with Manchester City facing 115 charges from the Premier League for financial fair play violations. Both situations remain unresolved, casting a shadow over CFG’s ownership model.
