Ten Hag Opens Up: Man Utd Targeted Kane Before Hojlund Signing

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag admitted he prioritized signing Harry Kane last summer, but the club ultimately acquired Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Hojlund arrived from Atalanta for £72 million, while Kane moved to Bayern Munich from Tottenham for a reported £100 million.

So far this season, Hojlund has managed eight goals in 26 league appearances for United, while Kane has exploded with 35 goals in 31 Bundesliga games for Bayern.

“We made choices based on available talent, like with Rasmus Hojlund,” Ten Hag explained in a Sky Sports interview with Gary Neville.

“There was also a proven striker we really wanted, but it wasn’t possible. That’s why we went for Rasmus, who has immense potential.”

When pressed by Neville about the specific player, Ten Hag confirmed, “Yes, and of course, Harry Kane is a goalscoring machine – someone who guarantees close to 30 goals a season.

I believe Rasmus will reach that level, but he needs time to develop. It wouldn’t be fair to compare them directly; they’re very different players.”
