Manchester United’s recent slump can’t be a coincidence. Their performances have been, frankly, underwhelming for almost a year.
While there have been occasional bright spots, like the FA Cup thriller against Liverpool, these are overshadowed by a string of disastrous defeats.
Remember the humiliating 7-0 loss to Liverpool? Or the abysmal 4-0 thrashing at Brentford? These were bad, but even worse were the mentally-draining losses: conceding two goals in injury time to Chelsea to lose 4-3, or inexplicably crashing out of the Champions League group stage to Copenhagen.
However, those earlier performances occasionally hinted at fight or tactical awareness.
Lately, that’s vanished completely. This past month’s displays have been utterly devoid of those glimpses. Something has clearly gone wrong within the team, and their recent form is undeniable proof.
