Lookman’s Treble Claims Historic Europa League Title for Atalanta
Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman etched his name in history on Wednesday night, firing Atalanta to their first-ever European trophy, the UEFA Europa League, with a stunning hat-trick.
Lookman became the first player ever to score three goals in a Europa League final, his goals effectively ending Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 51-game unbeaten run.
Deservedly named Man of the Match, Lookman opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a well-taken finish. He doubled his tally just 14 minutes later with a superb curling effort. The 26-year-old capped off his stellar performance with an unstoppable strike in the 75th minute, leaving Leverkusen with no chance of a comeback.
Despite introducing fresh attacking options in the second half, the Bundesliga champions were thoroughly outclassed by a rampant Atalanta side inspired by Lookman’s heroics.
