Spain’s head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has boldly included his team among the top contenders for Euro 2024. He believes Spain joins France, Germany, and England as the favorites to lift the trophy.
With the club season nearing its end, focus now turns to the European Championship kicking off in Germany on June 14th. Traditionally strong teams like World Cup finalists France, hosts Germany, and Gareth Southgate’s England were already considered frontrunners, along with 2016 champions Portugal.
Despite a difficult group stage draw that includes Italy, Croatia, and Albania, De la Fuente is confident Spain can compete with the tournament’s elite.
In an interview with Movistar Plus, he declared Spain as his clear favorite: “Spain would be my number one pick. We can compete with anyone, we’re definitely in contention.”
While acknowledging the talent in England, Portugal, and France, De la Fuente highlights Spain’s strength as a unit: “Sure, those teams have some incredible individual stars, which we might not have as many of. But we are a stronger team overall.”
