Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has expressed that the supporters lack a “realistic perspective” considering the team’s decade-plus absence from Premier League glory.
In a recent interview coinciding with United’s FA Cup final match against Manchester City, ten Hag addressed the situation.
Rumors are swirling about ten Hag’s potential dismissal following Saturday’s match at Wembley, marking his second year at the helm.
During his tenure, Manchester United has experienced its lowest Premier League ranking, finishing eighth, with the prospect of European competition hanging on the result of Saturday’s game.
In conversation with the Dutch publication VI, ten Hag remarked, “It’s been 11 years since Manchester United last clinched the league title in 2013. Yet, there’s an expectation for us to prevail in every match and to be contenders at the highest level. The club isn’t equipped for this yet.
We aimed to lay the groundwork and took initial steps last season. However, the enormity of the club means that satisfaction is elusive. Internally, there was contentment, but externally, critiques focused on my Carabao Cup victory, FA Cup final loss, and third-place finish.”
