Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is pleased with South African Football Association’s (SAFA’s) travel plans for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Broos’ team faces a crucial away match against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on June 7th. They then return home to host Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein three days later.
Chartered flights for the trip to Nigeria are a major positive for Broos. He emphasized the importance of this to SAFA.net: “Traveling by commercial airlines can take two days, leaving on a Wednesday and arriving exhausted on Thursday night. We experienced this against Ethiopia a few years ago.
Though we won the match at home, the players were drained and barely touched the ball. We can’t have that again. I’m very happy with SAFA’s effort to secure a charter flight. This will allow us to fly directly to Lagos and then on to Uyo, minimizing travel fatigue.”
