Premier League Approves Continued Use of VAR with Improvements
The Premier League confirmed the continuation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology for the upcoming season following a vote by all 20 clubs. This comes despite a proposal from Wolverhampton Wanderers to abolish the system.
The vote required 14 votes for approval, achieved by at least 19 clubs. However, the league acknowledges room for improvement and has identified six key areas for review. These areas include setting a higher threshold for VAR intervention and minimizing game delays caused by the system.
The Premier League statement emphasizes, “While VAR produces more accurate decision-making, it was agreed that improvements should be made for the benefit of the game and supporters.”
