Ndidi Prioritizes Team Success for Nigeria’s World Cup Qualifier
Ahead of Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has emphasized team unity over individual competition.
Ndidi missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, but his return coincides with strong performances by Brentford’s Frank Onyeka in the midfield.
Addressing the potential competition for starting positions, Ndidi stressed the team’s collective goal. “I was very impressed with the team at AFCON,” he told reporters. “For me, the team comes first, so there’s no competition with any player.”
He likened the team to a military unit, where every member contributes their best. “Every player should give their all when given the opportunity,” Ndidi said. “We’re here to focus on qualifying for the World Cup, not individual pressures or competition.”
