Despite securing a win against Austria in their Euro 2024 opener, former French defender Frank Leboeuf has identified two areas for improvement in Didier Deschamps’ squad.
Leboeuf pinpointed a lack of defensive cohesion between center-backs Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba.
He highlighted an instance where their unfamiliarity led to a missed defensive clearance, nearly conceding a goal. “At that level, you cannot afford” such lapses, Leboeuf stressed to ESPN FC.
He also raised concerns about potential selfishness in attack. While acknowledging the team’s talent, Leboeuf observed instances where players like Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé opted for individual solutions instead of passing to better-positioned teammates.
