Lothar Matthäus, a legend for Bayern Munich, has caused a stir by naming former Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer as his standout player at Euro 2024 so far.
Sabitzer has been instrumental in Austria’s success, leading them to the top of Group D ahead of powerhouses like France and the Netherlands.
He’ll be aiming to continue his impressive form as Austria faces Turkey in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Matthaus, writing for German publication Sport, stated, “Marcel Sabitzer is my player of the tournament so far.”
He elaborated, praising Sabitzer’s speed, technique, and ability to involve teammates while also contributing defensively.
