France’s Kylian Mbappe offered his thoughts on why Joao Felix missed his penalty in the Euro 2024 quarter-final shootout against Portugal.
Following a 0-0 draw after extra time, the game was decided on penalties. All players converted their kicks except for Felix, whose shot struck the post.
Mbappe attributed the miss to the pressure of the situation and the quality of France’s goalkeeper: “France’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan is a formidable presence in goal.
While I can’t say for certain, it’s possible that Felix felt the pressure of the penalty and the challenge Maignan presented.”
France will now face Spain in the tournament’s semi-final on Tuesday.
