UEFA Opens Disciplinary Case Against Morata and Rodri
UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Spanish national team members Álvaro Morata and Rodri. The action stems from chants sung during their Euro 2024 championship victory celebrations.
A statement released by UEFA on Friday confirmed the appointment of a disciplinary inspector “to evaluate a potential violation” of their regulations by the two players.
During a public celebration on Monday, Morata and Rodri led the crowd in chanting “Gibraltar is Spanish.” This chant references the ongoing sovereignty dispute between Spain and Gibraltar, a British overseas territory located on the Iberian Peninsula.
The Gibraltar Football Association formally lodged a complaint with UEFA on Thursday regarding the incident.
