Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior was notably absent from the squad for the Gunners’ Premier League opener, fueling speculation about his future at the Emirates. The Polish international was a regular fixture in Mikel Arteta’s side last season, but the recent arrival of Riccardo Calafiori has created a surplus of defensive options.
While Calafiori also missed the matchday squad, Kiwior’s complete omission is seen as a significant indicator of his potential departure. Similar to other high-profile exclusions at other clubs, such as Joe Gomez at Liverpool and Jadon Sancho at Manchester United, Kiwior’s absence points to a player on the fringes of the first team.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arteta’s decision was a “technical one,” suggesting that Kiwior was fit but simply not in the manager’s plans. The Italian journalist also indicated that while the Pole has attracted interest from several clubs, including those in Serie A, a concrete offer has yet to materialize.
Arsenal are keen to generate funds through player sales to offset their summer spending, with Kiwior, Eddie Nketiah, and Reiss Nelson potential departures. The Gunners have also been linked with a move for Ajax goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
