Nigerian Sports Minister Demands CAF Action Over Super Eagles’ Libya Ordeal
The Minister of Sports, John Enoh, has strongly condemned the treatment of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, by Libyan authorities.
The team was unexpectedly diverted to a remote airport upon arrival in Libya for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Minister Enoh expressed deep concern for the safety and well-being of the players and officials, who have been left stranded and without basic necessities.
He has escalated the matter to relevant authorities, including the Foreign Affairs Minister, the National Security Adviser, and the CAF Executive Committee. The minister has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene and ensure the safety of the Super Eagles, as well as to take appropriate action against the Libyan football federation for their mistreatment of the Nigerian team.
He has also instructed the Nigeria Football Federation to file a formal complaint with CAF.
