Zambia’s Banda Claims African Women’s Player of the Year Award
Zambia’s football sensation, Barbra Banda, has once again etched her name in history by winning the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The talented forward’s exceptional performances throughout the year have earned her this prestigious honor.
Banda’s stellar year was highlighted by her crucial role in Orlando Pride’s NWSL Championship victory. Her goal in the final match proved to be the difference, sealing the title for her team. Furthermore, Banda made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by scoring a hat-trick, setting a new Olympic record for women’s football. While Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie was a strong contender for the Player of the Year award, it was Banda who ultimately emerged victorious. However, Nnadozie did manage to retain her title as the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, showcasing her continued excellence between the posts.
