Gary Neville has expressed regret over a past comment he made about former Chelsea and Arsenal defender David Luiz.
Following a Chelsea defeat to Liverpool during the 2011-2012 season, Neville famously criticized Luiz, saying he played “like he was being controlled by a 10-year-old on a PlayStation.”
Reflecting on his career as a pundit, Neville acknowledged that this comment, along with his description of Chelsea players as “billion-dollar bottle jobs,” were harsh and unfair. He admitted that these comments, particularly the one about Luiz, may have unfairly tarnished the Brazilian’s reputation.
Neville acknowledged that these were “cheap shots” and that he wishes he had chosen his words more carefully.
