Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has acknowledged the allure of life in Barcelona but insists that his footballing ambitions will ultimately dictate his future at the club.
“People think I want to stay at Barça forever because life outside football is so good here, and it IS good, but it’s less important to what happens on the pitch,” De Jong told VI.
He continued, “If I’d feel that I can’t contribute enough, or the team can’t compete, I’d be gone.” De Jong’s comments highlight his unwavering focus on achieving success on the pitch, despite the undeniable appeal of living in Barcelona.
